Burning Oil Smell

Oil leaking onto hot components may burn away before it ever reaches the ground.

A valve-cover or upper-engine leak can drip onto an exhaust manifold or other hot surface, creating odor or smoke even when no puddle forms under the vehicle. This type of leak should still be inspected promptly.

Low engine oil can cause serious damage.

If the oil warning light comes on or the dipstick shows very low oil, stop and verify the oil level before continuing to drive.

Small Seep vs. Active Leak
