Most automotive heating systems use hot engine coolant flowing through a heater core to warm cabin air. If coolant is low, the thermostat is not operating correctly, circulation is restricted or HVAC doors and controls are malfunctioning, the cabin may never warm properly. If the thermostat allows coolant to circulate through the radiator too early, the engine may take too long to warm up or may run cooler than intended. Low coolant, air pockets and water-pump problems can also reduce heater performance by limiting hot coolant flow.
