What signs can point to an A/C compressor problem?

Compressor problems can be mechanical, electrical or related to system pressure. Common symptoms include:

Internal Compressor Failure

A damaged compressor can contaminate the rest of the A/C system.

If internal compressor parts break down, metal debris and degraded oil can circulate through hoses, the condenser and other components. In those cases, replacing only the compressor may not be enough. Additional cleaning or replacement of affected parts may be required to protect the new compressor.

Low refrigerant, lubrication loss, blocked flow or another failed component can damage a new compressor if the original cause is left unresolved.

Belt & Pulley Concerns
