Serpentine vs. Timing Belt

Accessory belt service and timing belt service are not the same repair.

The serpentine belt is visible on the outside of the engine and drives accessories. A timing belt, on engines that use one, is located behind covers and synchronizes internal engine timing. Timing belt replacement follows a separate manufacturer interval and often involves more extensive labor.

Do not ignore a belt that is badly frayed or partially separated.

A belt can fail suddenly and stop the alternator, power steering or water pump from operating depending on vehicle design.

Tensioners & Idler Pulleys

A new belt will not last if the drive system is misaligned or the tensioner is weak.
