Why Does My Car Pull to One Side?

Alignment vs. Tires

How do you know whether the problem is alignment or tires?

Both can create nearly identical symptoms. Tire pressure should be checked first, followed by tire condition and wear pattern. If the tires are healthy and pressures are correct, alignment and suspension inspection become more important.

A useful clue:

If the pull changes direction after rotating or moving tires, the tire itself may be contributing. If the steering wheel remains off-center and the vehicle tracks poorly regardless of tire position, alignment or chassis issues become more likely.

Could It Just Be the Road?

Road crown can make a healthy vehicle drift slightly.

Many roads are intentionally crowned so water drains toward the shoulder. That slope can create a mild tendency for the vehicle to drift toward the lower side of the road.

A vehicle that strongly pulls on flat pavement, has an off-center steering wheel or shows uneven tire wear should still be inspected.
