How can you tell what is causing the wear?

More than one condition can exist at the same time. A vehicle may have incorrect pressure plus poor alignment or worn suspension, so tire inspection should be combined with pressure checks and chassis evaluation when the wear is significant.
Tire rotation can slow future uneven wear, but it cannot restore tread that is already gone.
Rotation changes tire positions so wear can be distributed more evenly over time. If a tire is already badly worn on one edge, cupped or damaged, rotating it does not repair the existing tread loss.
